Russian Private (Visitor) Visa Requirements for Iraqi Citizens
If you are an Iraqi citizen who plans to travel to Russia to visit a friend or a relative, you need to apply for a visitor visa at the Russian Embassy. You will be required to provide a complete package of relevant documents, including an invitation letter.
Your friend or relative will have to take care of this aspect of fulfilling your visa formalities. For that, they will need to request to issue an invitation letter at the local office of the Federal Migration Service of Russia (FMS). The following documents must be prepared prior to requesting this document: a copy of the applicant's passport, a copy of the traveler's passport, a proof of income and a letter of guarantee from the host in which he/she agrees to accommodate the visitor, provide any kind of support during his/her stay in Russia and states that he/she shall bear all expenses should the visitor violate any immigration rules of the Russian Federation and be deported. Please note that anyone who invites a person from Iraq is required to appear for an interview session at the FMS office and clarify what is the purpose of the Iraqi citizen's visit to Russia.

The FMS officials will take their time to review the application. After the allotted time, an invitation letter or a letter of refusal to grant this document (outlining the reasons) will be issued. Applicants who possess an invitation letter supporting their visitor visa application may be granted a visa valid for the period indicated in the invitation (but not exceeding 90 days). Visitor visa can be single- or double-entry.

The business visa invitation letter can be obtained by either of these ways:

To make its own official letters to foreign citizens, the company must be authorized by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Federal Migration Service. This type of invitation is very quick to get, it takes a single day to complete.
Also, the representatives of any Russian company can apply at the local FMS office and request an official FMS-approved letter of invitation. The application must be supported by attaching a set of relevant documents, including a letter of guarantee. The authorities will deliver a decision within the legally stipulated time. If it's positive, the letter will be issued on a special highly protected form. Should the application be denied, a written notification stating the reasons for refusal will be given.
Telex invitation is an electronic message which serves as an instruction sent from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs ordering the Embassy in Iraq to grant a business visa to the applicant. This type of invitation does not have any tangible form, it is just a sequence of digits called Telex number.

The Telex number must be forwarded to the applicant, he/she will need to indicate it when filling out the visa application form. If granted, the business visa will be valid for the requested period, however it cannot exceed 1 year. Business visa can be single-, double-, or multiple-entry.

Russian Work Visa Requirements for Iraqi Citizens
Obtaining a work visa is a time and effort consuming process. First of all, anyone who plans to apply for this type of visa needs to find a Russian company wishing to employ a foreign worker and make sure the employer will provide assistance in arranging the necessary documents. Any Russian company wishing to employ foreign labor in Russia must apply for a general permit to do so.

The company must also arrange a work permit and a work visa support letter for the prospective employee and send these two documents to him/her in original by mail. As soon as all the required documents are collected, the applicant will be ready to make an appointment at the Russian Consulate to lodge his/her visa application.
A work visa will allow its holder to travel into and out of Russia any number of times during the visa validity period and extend it without leaving the country. Work visas can be valid for a one- or three-year period.

Russian Electronic Visa from Iraq
An electronic visa (hereinafter referred to as "e-visa") is a new type of a visa document. A visa invitation to Russia is not required for obtaining an e-visa. To obtain an e-visa to Russia use our “E-visa to Russia” service.
An e-visa can be only single-entry. The permitted stay in Russia on an e-visa is up to 8 days from the date of entry within its validity period.
The validity period and/ or permitted stay on an e-visa cannot be extended. To obtain an e-visa a foreign citizen needs a digital passport photo and a completed application form containing full and valid data at the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
