If Malawian citizen wants to visit his relatives living in the Russian Federation, he needs to make a request to Russian embassy and apply for homestay visa. In order to do it, a homestay invitation is required. An issuance of this invitation should provide those who wants to see him.
If a foreigner is being invited to Russia by an individual, he needs to contact Federal Migration Service section on his residence’s administrative unit and submit a list of documents among which must be a request for homestay invitation issuance, copies of invited and inviting person’s passports, incoming statement and a guarantee letter from an inviting person. In that letter person who invites foreign citizen guarantee that foreign guest will have everything he needs for his stay in Russia during the whole validity of his visa. An inviting person will pass the interview with FMS officer because Malawi is in the list of High Migration Risk countries.

Russian work visa for Malawian citizens
If Malawian citizen have found an employer in Russia, he should apply for work visa. He will need an employer’s help for the registration of documents.
Russian company which plans to provide a workplace for Malawian citizen must have a permit to hire employees from abroad. Russian Electronic Visa from Malawi
An electronic visa (hereinafter referred to as "e-visa") is a new type of a visa document. A visa invitation to Russia is not required for obtaining an e-visa. To obtain an e-visa to Russia use our “E-visa to Russia” service.
An e-visa can be only single-entry. The permitted stay in Russia on an e-visa is up to 8 days from the date of entry within its validity period.
The validity period and/ or permitted stay on an e-visa cannot be extended. To obtain an e-visa a foreign citizen needs a digital passport photo and a completed application form containing full and valid data at the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
