Excursion to the Church of the Saviour on the Spilt Blood

In addition to a standard guided walking city tour around the city center of St. Petersburg you'll have one longer stop visiting the Church of the Savior on the Spilt Blood.
The Сhurch of the Resurrection or "Saviour on the Spilt Blood" was built on the site of the assassination of the Emperor Alexander II. The cathedral was built in the Russian style accoding to the model of St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. The main decoration of the construction is imosaic decoration that covers the area of over 7,000 sq.m. During the Soviet period the church was used as a warehouse because of "no cultural value." In 1997 the church was renovated and re-opened. The church with its elegant domes and magnificent mosaic panels is a unique example of architecture of the late stages of evolution of the "Russian style".
