Tour of the Mikhailovsky (engineering) castle

The guided tour (without transfer) to the Mikhailovsky Castle (1797-1801 years) - the residence of Emperor Paul I. It is the only building in Russia constructed in the Romantic Classicism style. The overall design of the castle and the first sketches belonged to the Emperor himself. The name was given in honor of the patron saint of the Romanov dynasty - the Archangel Michael. The main point in the history of the castle and of the excursion is the murder of Paul I that took place in the castle on the night of 11 to 12 March 1801. After the murder of the Emperor the Mikhailovsky Castle was abandoned by the Romanovs and went to the jurisdiction of to the Ministry of the Emperor's Court. In 1823 the Engineering College was placed in the building and the castle got the second name "Engineering." During the tour you will visit the exhibition "History of the castle and its inhabitants," as well as visit the chambers of Paul I where the murder took place.
